Adelaide Fringe Summer of Love
March 12, 2008If you live up in the Adelaide Hills I’d better tell you about a Fringe show that I am involved with at Macclesfield, this Saturday, 16th March 2008. Here is some information from the Director of the Summer of Love, Graham Thomas.
THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE WATER!
A GIANT, INFLATABLE, BLOOD-SUCKING BEAST will invade the Adelaide Hills village of Macclesfield this Fringe. From the bowels of the Macclesfield Institute this massive creature will be created during a free, 3 day workshop with the Knee High Puppet Company. It will begin its life as a tangled mass of plastic and will develop into a 15 metre long by 2 metre high aquatic being. A being that lives right here in the valley’s wild waters – the Angas River.
Be the first to witness this unique creation at the SUMMER OF LOVE world music festival, a free, family event held here in Macclesfield. Get up close and take a walk through the innards of this beast. To celebrate this creature and the precious flow of the Angas River, the local school children will take part in a wriggling, writhing street parade and will be joined by roaming theatre performers. The parade will march along the main street of Macclesfield and finish at Davenport Square to open the SUMMER OF LOVE.
Ethereal dream pop musicians DANDELION WINE and indigenous roots music band THE MERRg are just some of the superb line-up for the day. Other music will range from Middle Eastern/Greek et al played by DIONYSUS a new Greek Fusion Band and the ENGLISH TOURISTS to Tibetan vocals and flute with WANGYAL GANGRI alternative blues reggae to rocked up classical from AKOUSTIC ODYSSEY , a special treat will be the sounds of mystical TIBETAN singing bowls created by THE WESTERNMOST OMASTRY.
Free activities for the children include the celebrated Micheal Magician, African drum making /performance workshops and face painting.
There will be a melting pot of exotic foods. Rohan Richards from A Taste of Jamaica will tempt with his famous Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Moroccan
celebrity chef Mohammed Bartaouch will cook the mouth-watering Morrocan Tagine. Mexican and Goan curries will add to the feast.
As the sun starts to slip behind the hills, head for the HAVANA CLUB LOUNGE in the town’s historic Institute. DJ’s Dwell and Dkmn and special guest DJ Proverbs, will preside with guests for a musical menu of world fusion, dub reggae and latin-groove jazz. An open mike will be available for live performance and poetry.
SUMMER OF LOVE is the chilled event of 2008 in the Adelaide Hills.
