My second day
March 4, 2008Have you ever been on a bus that broke down with the temperature around 39 degrees? I never had until today. (It must be that conspiracy – you know the one?) Yesterday I got my password sorted out but I still cannot find where my timetable is located at myuni . . .
Did I sleep in again? Of course I did. The mozzies last night where just unbearable – even after I sprayed obnoxious chemicals at them. It only seemed to encourage them. I had to get up for a few hours and turn a computer back on for a while.
I got into uni with half an hour to spare. A frendly lass from the student office showed me where my timetable is with just one click – of course and I printed one out. Then, should I try and catch Professor Griffiths, and hand in yesterdays asignment (audit), or should I try and locate the next Lecture Theatre. She wasn’t there anyway. So I trekked from the seventh floor of the Hughes Building (terrible lifts) to the seventh floor of the Napier builing and dropped off my assignment. Sought out directions to the Engineering South building and got into my lecture for Australian classics with a minute or two to spare.
So far – so good. It was a good, lecture, delivered very fast, barely enough time to take notes. Phillip Butterss, good style, interesting and concise. I will post details of this subject and lecture in a separate post.
I will need to do a lot of reading for this course. I thought I might be short of books, but that might not be the case. There is a strong historical component to this subject. I should have some material at home. Rob was going to drop a few books off later in the day.
I walked back through the mall and had a chat with a few buskers. I spoke to Andy Salvanos; he plays a Chapman stick. Have a listen to his music at myspace.com/andysalvanos – his music is beautiful; I haven’t heard anything like it. I call it the sound of Rundle Mall, it is so unique. Last week Andy had a virus attack on his MySpace page; we spoke about that for a while, chatted with some other friends and then I headed homewards down the mall.
I’m a bit poor for a few days. Very poor. If I walked home I could buy some cream for coffee. Coffee.
Around the corner from home I saw Rob’s car, he must have just stopped at my place. He gave me copies of Coonardoo, Summer of the Seventeeth Doll and The Getting of Wisdom. He threw in a copy of Power Without Glory, just in case. As if I’d have time to read that again. Good work, Rob.
I dug around and found a bit more Australian literature. But if I moved some furniture away from the book cases I might find a bit more historical works, perhaps even some old Bulletins.
Tonight I have to read through today’s lecture notes, see what has been posted on myuni and have another look at yesterday’s lecture presentations that I missed. I think I have enough background knowledge about all of this that it shouldn’t matter too much. But I don’t want to miss any more lectures. I need to see what I have to get ready for tomorrow as well. I have a printed timetable now.
Tomorrow I have the first Media Theory lecture at 12 (that’s a more civilised time), and then an Australian Classics tutorial, that will be interesting: some interaction.
I’ll let you know what happens.
